During childhood, many kids play with dolls–young Rachael K. designed restaurants and dreamed of becoming a chef. She’s had an obsession with cooking since she was old enough to lick the brownie batter bowl. For fun, she would plan themed five-course dinner parties for her family …and yes, dressing for the occasion was required.
For decades she’s fostered her artistry in many different realms, ultimately achieving a Glass Art degree from Kent State University. Already a certified food safety manager, she is currently working to reach another professional benchmark and become certified by the American Culinary Federation as an executive personal chef. She also continues her culinary education by attending courses at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.
Growing up and attending school in Ohio, in 2005 she moved to the Reno-Tahoe area to cook for the Nevada Conservation Corps forestry effort. Later that year, Rachael left to assist with the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina devastated the town that was home to many of her culinary inspirations, such as Paul Prudhomme. There, she prepared comfort foods for fellow volunteers and victims of the hurricane.
While in the south, Rachael spent time as artist-in-residency at a school in Gatlinburg, Tennessee before returning to the Reno-Tahoe area, where she and her family ultimately settled. Inspired by her experiences across the U.S., Rachael began her own business as a personal chef, and is now creating specialized cuisine for intimate parties to grand occasions, both locally and on an international scale. She loves to push culinary boundaries, often creating exceptional international fusion menus, and no concept or form of cuisine intimidates her.
Aside from the culinary arts and preparing extraordinary meals for private parties and special occasions, Rachael’s passions include organic gardening, making wine with her husband, playing with their two sons, or creating other forms of artistry. Her culinary and personal credo is to involve herself heavily in community, keep her lifestyle and business sustainable and eco-conscious, and to work hard and honestly, adhering to her clients’ values and wishes regarding their homes and dietary requirements.
